Dear Friend of MBIN,
Since its founding in 1983, Marin Brain Injury Network (MBIN)
has grown from a grassroots support network to a model rehabilitation
program, unique in the County and in the State. Through
its day program, the Larkspur Center, MBIN has provided
supportive and rehabilitative services for brain injury
survivors and their families since 1997. At the Center,
program participants receive training to help them relearn
critical life skills and reintegrate into their communities;
their families and caregivers receive support and respite;
and students and inters receive hands-on training. Many
members of the community have visited the program, attend
an event at the Center or given their time as a volunteer.
Your
support has enabled us to build the new Larkspur Center
facility, add additional staff, increase the number of survivors
served, and offer a wider variety of classes and other activities.
However, as the number of brain injury survivors increases,
the waiting list at the Larkspur Center grows. It is estimated
that 65,000 survivors live in the Bay Area and 4,000 new
brain injuries occur in Marin and surrounding counties each
year.
During
the coming year, MBIN will continue to expand and improve
the program – increasing the number of participants
served, lengthening program hours and adding additional
classes. In addition, we will focus on developing the Larkspur
Center as a community center – adding new services
for caregivers, hosting community educational events, and
providing information and resources for everyone interested
in learning about, healing from, or preventing brain injuries.
Very
sincerely yours,

Karen Schurig
