Volunteer Opportunities
The Larkspur Center thrives on the efforts and talents of many volunteers, interns and students.
Our community is rich with volunteers and we need your help. Please consider joining us by assisting in the garden, in our art studio, with administrative support, or in any of our classes.
- Members of the community are welcome to volunteer in our classes and are an integral part of our program.
- We participate in the “Week of Caring”, a partnership between The Volunteer Centers and United Way of the Bay Area, providing volunteer opportunities to employees of local corporations, including Fireman’s Fund and Bank of Marin.
- MBIN is certified by Marin County to offer community service hours for those choosing to work rather than pay monetary fines.
Additional Ways to Get Involved
FIELDWORK PLACEMENT
The Larkspur Center is a teaching lab for Bay Area colleges and universities. Students work hands-on with program participants under the supervision of the Program Director and the Clinical Director.
- College of Marin: Behavioral Sciences Psychology
- Dominican College: Occupational Therapy Nursing
- Sonoma State Univ: Public Health Nursing
- U. of San Francisco: Public Health Nursing
SURVIVORS MENTORING SURVIVORS
Acquired brain injury survivors who have a skill or talent they wish to share become mentors to other ABI survivors. Mentors may work one-to-one with an individual participant or teach a group.
TRAINING FOR PROFESSIONALS
Because ABI is a new disability, healthcare workers have had little experience working with survivors. The Program Director offers individual consultations to social service and healthcare providers. The staff makes educational presentations to other agencies to promote understanding of the unique characteristics and critical needs of this expanding disability population.
