The
primary purpose of the garden that surrounds the Marin Brain Injury Network (MBIN) is to provide a therapeutic and learning experience
to program participants through horticulture. Horticultural
therapy incorporates plants and plant-related activities
to help improve the body, mind and spirit of the individual.
Horticultural therapy is an accepted and effective
tool that offers cognitive, social, psychological
and physical benefits as well as improving one’s
quality of life. Gardening can bring about surprising
results, both in improving motor skills and in reducing
stress.
MBIN participants are provided a hands-on
connection with the natural environment and life cycle.
By caring for plants, individuals realize that
they can have an impact on improving the ecosystem.
The
garden at MBIN
has been lovingly created and designed by Master Gardners,
Patricia Compton and Karen Halvorson. Through their constant nuturing and generous donations of plants, soil, and irrigation equipment, the garden has become an oasis of beauty.
The Donor Brick Walkway provides donor
recognition or to acknowledge an event or a loved one. It is also another means of raising critically needed funds to support MBIN programs. To learn more about purchasing a brick, please contact Therese Jacobson at 415-461-6771.
Community Services Opportunities
Volunteers can earn community service hours in our gardens while learning more about creating a habitat sanctuary. There are many ways to contribute time and effort: from plant propagation and habitat restoration to maintenance. Please contact Therese Jacobson at 415-461-6771 for more information.
